President Paul Kagame today on Friday called for stronger global cooperation and a shift toward shared growth, warning that increasing fragmentation risks deepening divisions worldwide. Speaking at the 18th Global Policy Conference on Global Governance  in France, President Kagame said Africa’s priorities are straightforward but often misunderstood.

What Africa wants is simple: to take care of ourselves, and work productively with others,” he said.

With the fragmentation we are seeing around the world, more isolation is not the solution. It will breed rivalry and division,”He cautioned against growing isolationism, noting its potential to fuel conflict rather than stability.

The Rwandan leader emphasized that global development should not be approached as a zero-sum competition, but as a shared opportunity for progress.

Viewing development as a positive-sum game rather than a competition can bring the predictability and coherence that our global system desperately needs,”.

Kagame added that the goal of the international community should not be perfection, but coexistence and mutual prosperity despite differences.

The question is not whether we can build a perfectly balanced world. It’s whether we can co-exist, even with our differences, and still prosper together,”.

The World Policy Conference typically brings together senior leaders, decision-makers, and experts in international politics, with the aim of assessing the state of the world and collectively seeking solutions to global challenges.

The conference discusses inclusive and sustainable approaches to global well-being that can be adopted by all countries.

President Kagame participated in these discussions at a time when Africa continues to play an increasingly visible role in international debates on development and security.
