
Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Nigeria in the fifth matchday of Group C in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Both goals were scored by Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the first half.
Following this result, Rwanda dropped to third place in the group standings with seven points, while Nigeria moved up to fourth with six points. South Africa now leads the group with 10 points after securing a 2-0 victory over Lesotho.
Amavubi will return to action on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, when they face Lesotho at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Among the spectators at the match was Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, who attended alongside First Lady Jeannette Kagame and their grandchild.
