Youths who own small business at the Rwamagana Youth Center in Kigabiro Sector, say that they are struggling because their projects require collateral from the BDF, a fund that helps youth in small businesses, but they do not have collaterals.
This Wednesday ,December 18, in Rwamagana District, BDF held a promotional event organized by the Provincial and District Administration, where representatives of financial institutions, representatives of special groups in the districts including youth, women and people with disabilities. In the Government's National Strategy for Accelerated Development, Phase II, NST2, it is expected that 250,000 jobs will be created per year, with a focus on different categories including youth. Some youth are advised to use financial institutions and even approach Business Development Fund BDF to secure it.
One of them said” It's a long road to get that loan so we can develop ourselves. Even if you do that project, they ask you for collateral, and we don't have any.”
‘’We have a lot of young people so that more than 70% of them need BDF services. In fact, if it is a collateral, whether it is land, you know the value of land today and you find that they do not have it. Sometimes they say that they were baptized by their parents even though they do not have parents. Munyaneza Isaac Rwamagana National Youth Council Coordinator added.
There are services called Inkunga Nyunganizi, which these youths are showing, had a huge number of requests , but in the revised Policy this issue has been considered in such a way that in good collaboration with other institutions of the government, youths are encouraged to participate more in this program.
‘We have had a response that exceeds our capacity. That is where the problem is. It the only gap we need to put in more effort to ensure that these services are taken up more. For the collateral that we provide through the bank to people who have applied for loans but have trouble finding the assets they provide to assure the bank that they will be able to repay." Munyeshyaka Vincent, the Chief Executive Officer of BDF, explains.
He added “Things are going up, we have revised the policy and we are now investing 16 billion every year. We believe that we can continue to raise awareness so that this service can be taken up more than it is today.”
The BDF Partial-Credit guarantee In the Eastern Province took 18% of the projects, 18% of the guarantee and 20% of the loan triggered
