Use your strength to build your nation – Brig Gen Muhizi

The Commander of the RDF in the Eastern Province, Brigadier General Pascal Muhizi, has urged the youth to follow in the footsteps of those who liberated Rwanda, by showing patriotism and protecting the country’s achievements.

He made these remarks during a Kwibohora31 (31st Liberation Anniversary) celebration held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Gikoba, Tabagwe Sector after the Liberation Tour from Nyagatare Stadium to Gikoba Liberation trail.

The event attended by residents of Nyagatare, their friends, and the leadership of the Eastern Province led by Governor Pudence Rubingisa. The event was also graced by the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Mark Cyubahiro Bagaba.

Brig Gen Pascal Muhizi told the youth that they have a responsibility to safeguard and protect Rwanda’s achievements so the country never returns to its dark past.

“President Kagame told us Rwanda’s survival depended on us, and we vowed never to let it fall.” He said.

Anyone with strength must use it to build the country that gave them life. Youth, the energy you have is not meant for fighting or wasting away in bars—no! It should be used to build the nation and improve your own lives as well. So, let us continue to emulate those who liberated our country, the RPA Inkotanyi. Brig Gen Muhizi emphasized:

Some youth expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn about Rwanda’s liberation history from elders with experienced.

Mugabo Jerbert from Rutaraka, Nyagatare, said anyone who fails to appreciate the leadership of the RPF has a problem. He added that today’s youth are not called to war but to self-development, national progress, and protecting past gains.

He said:As for me, as a young person, I am not being called to take up arms, but I’ve been told that my struggle is to improve my life, contribute to national development, and safeguard what has already been achieved. I believe that should not be a hard task for us as the youth.”

Robert Mugisha from Nyarupfubire, Rwimiyaga, said only God knows the reward the RPF Inkotanyi deserve. He praised the peace, equal access to education, and the historical awareness instilled in the youth.

“Our battle as youth is to develop ourselves and our country, and protect what has been achieved.”  Mugabo Jerbert said.  He added:“Only God knows the reward the Inkotanyi truly deserve.

Overall, the event gathered over 4,000 people, including youth from across the Eastern Province, local leaders, war veterans, and residents of Nyagatare.
